Florian Hecker develops installations, performances and publications, which revolve around the subjective dimension of sounds. The focus of Hecker’s conceived acoustic environments is the process of hearing itself, with its physiological and psychological properties. He composes these multi-channel room installations and comprehensive experiential spaces from sounds generated by electro-acoustic signal processing. Hecker distils the technical apparatus of his unusual sonic spaces into a minimalistic sculptural arrangement. His works challenge and build upon the conventions of compositional development of post-war modernism, electro-acoustic music and conceptual art all at the same time.
